To be approved for a Yendo card you need a vehicle with value in it (owned outright or still being paid off), the title in your name and the vehicle registered to you in a state where Yendo operates, a valid government-issued ID, and enough income to repay. Yendo says perfect credit isn't required: it looks at the vehicle's value and your ability to repay as well as your credit history, and a thin file or a low score doesn't rule you out. Checking your offer is a soft inquiry; accepting it is a hard one.

Key takeaways

Have a car with equity and want to see your offer?

Yendo says checking your offer takes about a minute and uses a soft inquiry, so it doesn't affect your credit score. You see your limit before you accept.

Accepting an offer triggers a hard credit inquiry. Your car becomes collateral (a lien on your title), so if you don't repay you could lose it. Purchase APR 24.88% to 35.88%; $40 annual fee on the Auto Card per Yendo's FAQ. US only, and not available in every state: through our link it isn't offered in AK, HI, IA, LA, ME, MD, MA, MN, MO, NJ, NY, OK, SD or WI. Not a good fit if you can't afford to risk the car you rely on.

Yendo's FAQ also says it allows only one vehicle per account.

How approval works, step by step

  1. Check your offer. You tell Yendo about yourself and your vehicle and get a pre-approval decision in about a minute. Yendo says this is a soft inquiry that doesn't affect your credit score.
  2. Verify your identity and vehicle. You upload a photo of your government ID and a few photos of the vehicle from your phone. Yendo then checks the title with your state, electronically in most states; otherwise you mail the title and Yendo covers shipping.
  3. See your limit before you accept. Yendo says it shows your credit limit before you commit.
  4. Accept, and the hard inquiry happens. If you accept, Yendo runs a hard credit inquiry, which can affect your score, and records a lien on your title.
  5. Use the virtual card. Yendo says the virtual card works within minutes in Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay, and the physical card is mailed afterwards.

How Yendo sets your credit limit

Yendo says it weighs three things together: the vehicle (make, model, year, trim, mileage and condition), your ability to repay (income against regular expenses) and your credit history, which it calls part of the picture, not the whole of it. Limits range from $450 to $10,000, not everyone qualifies for the full amount, and Yendo offers credit limit increases with qualification. If you still owe on the car, the limit is based on the equity you've built so far.

Can you get Yendo with bad credit or no credit?

Possibly. Yendo's answer is that perfect credit isn't required, and a thin file or low score doesn't rule you out, because the vehicle and your ability to repay count too. That's not a promise of approval. For other ways to start building credit, see can you get a credit card with no credit history?

What it costs once you're approved

Paying the full statement balance by the due date means no interest on purchases. Full details are in our Yendo review.

Think about the risk before you apply

Your car is the security. While the account is open there's a lien on your title, and you can't sell or trade the vehicle without settling the account first. Yendo says it doesn't install trackers or starter-interrupt devices, and that if you fall behind it will first contact you to work out a plan; only after written notice and as a last resort will it act as lienholder. If you depend on the car for work, compare a regular secured card first; see Yendo vs a secured credit card and title loan vs car-secured credit card.
